The ineffectiveness of the existing training model in Indonesia, especially for remote area health center managers, needs to develop a Problem Based Learning model that is appropriate to the problems in the area. The research method uses quasiexperimental, pre-test and post-test control group design. The study subjects consisted of 26 Public Health Centre heads from remote areas in South Sulawesi Province. The data collection instrument used was pre-test and post-test with Alpha Cronbach reliability coefficient of 0.938. The results showed that group competencies taught with Problem Based Learning (̅ =88.72) were better than group competencies taught by direct learning methods (̅ =73.33). Results showed a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group (p=.022). The correlation coefficient between the post-test score and the answer score of the Problem Based Learning worksheet shows positive significance (p=.000). The use of Problem Based Learning in teaching planning material results in the planning of community health centers in accordance with the problems found in the working area.

Participant responses to the change process were influenced by the perceived relevance and value of the change (e.g. benefit to student learning), which was shaped by individual beliefs and preferences (e.g. presumed purpose of PBL, relative value placed on different curriculum topics, and desire for uniform educational experience), and the wider education context (e.g. expectations of assessment). It appears that the three distinct elements must align for the changes to be received positively. We updated our PBL curriculum in response to new evidence DISCUSSION: This study describes how we updated our PBL curriculum in response to new evidence, and demonstrates the importance of communicating the pedagogic rationale behind changes, and meticulous planning, preparation and alignment, even in distant parts of the curriculum. Engaging with existing views and attitudes is an essential requirement for successful curriculum change.

AbstrakPerubahan paradigma sakit menjadi sehat, kuratif menjadi preventif dan berbasis komunitas menempatkan ilmu kesehatan masyarakat yang dikemas dalam Public Health Oriented Program (PHOP) sebagai materi yang sangat penting di Fakultas Kedokteran Unpad. Persepsi mahasiswa mengenai materi dalam kurikulum pendidikan dapat menggambarkan bagaimana efektivitas kurikulum tersebut. Atas dasar tersebut maka dilakukan penelitian tentang persepsi dokter internship FK Unpad mengenai manfaat PHOP pada saat mereka menjalankan internship. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan consecutive sampling. Data diolah menggunakan distribusi frekuensi dan narasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebagian besar responden menyatakan bahwa materi-materi yang terdapat di PHOP bermanfaat pada waktu internship, namun beberapa topik kurang aplikatif, peranan mereka sebagai dokter fungsional, tidak diberi kesempatan untuk melakukan fungsi manajemen, preventif, dan promotif di masyarakat. Dari hasil ini dapat disimpulkan, perlu ada penyesuaian materi lebih aplikatif, laboratorium khusus untuk PHOP, mendatangkan expert dari lapangan dan wahana intership melibatkan dokter dalam bidang manajemen, preventif, dan promotif di masyarakat. A validated questionnaire was used, containing 52 questions in Likert scale, divided into 4 groups of questions that was distributed to the respondents using Research Electronic Data Capture (REDcap). A consecutive sampling was used. The data was analyzed using frequency distribution and narratives. The results showed that most of the respondents stated that the materials in PHOP were very useful during internship but some topics were less applicable because the main role they played during internship was the role of a clinician and they were not given the opportunity to perform management, preventive and promotive functions in the community. From these results it can be concluded that there are needs for material adjustment towards more applicable, special laboratory activities for PHOP, inviting public health practitioners/experts to give lecture, and creating opportunities for the students to apply management, preventive and promotive actions during internship.
