Identity politics is inseparable from multicultural society. Identity politics is a form of political method used by various majority and minority groups to achieve the desired ideal political goals. Due to differences in ideal views held between groups, the use of identity politics by majority groups to accommodate political interests often leads to conflict because it threatens the interests of minority groups and vulnerable groups such as religious, ethnic and gender groups. Based on the level of use, identity politics is used at the level of social life up to the level of student life to fulfill various political goals such as attracting votes in the election of leaders and the identity politics that is often used is religious identity politics. The majority of the people of West Sumatra are adherents of the Islamic faith, the use of Islamic identity politics often threatens the existence of other ethnicities and beliefs through sharia regional regulations. In student life, identity politics is related to everyday life, including fulfilling the need to worship according to beliefs and the need for mutual respect between students so that a harmonious multicultural life is achieved. The method that will be used in this research is a literature review, is by analyzing various research articles related to political tolerance and religious identity politics. The results of this research show that there are indications of differences in political tolerance between society and students in West Sumatra related to religious identity politics.

The objective of this study is to examine the challenges encountered by Islamic Sharia Enforcement Committee in South Sulawesi by analyzing the responses of charismatic ulama. Qualitative methods, such as observation, interviews, and documentation, were employed to conduct a descriptive and critical analysis. The result showed that the primary obstacle to the wider acceptance of the idea lies in the sociological rejection of ulama. Ulama opposed the plan due to their epistemological understanding of Sharia and strategic approach to advocating it within the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Politically, they gave a substantive and cultural notion instead of formalistic and structural discourse because there are no circumstances in South Sulawesi that may force the state to grant special autonomy like in Aceh. The contemporary thinking of ulama is shaped by education and practical experience, enabling them to consider contextual factors openly. The views of the Indonesian ulama on implementing Islamic Sharia are influenced by political failures, genuine religious beliefs, and political accommodations made to address Muslim aspirations. Furthermore, the results showed a decreasing trend in the scripturalist-formalistic approach to enforcing Islamic Sharia, while the substantialistic tendency is growing in popularity.

This research attempts to examine the role of Ulama as a norm entrepreneur in the adaptation of the new normal in West Sumatra. West Sumatra is one of the fifteen provinces in Indonesia with the highest number of Covid-19 cases. In the past week, West Sumatra was one of the five provinces where the number of Covid-19 cases increased significantly. With this number, we need to optimize the adaptation of the WHO's norm in West Sumatra. With the majority of the population being Muslim, West Sumatra has an influential Islamic identity. The religious character of society opens up space for Ulama to play a role in performing the adaptation of the new normal to cope with the spread of Covid-19. The norms originate globally, in order to be applied must be localized. The method applied in this research is a qualitative method using secondary and primary data. Norm entrepreneur and norm localization employed in this research as the concept. The result shows that in optimizing the adaptation of a new order in West Sumatra, Ulama frames the idea of a new normal using the hadith and verses of the Koran. The new normal norm reconstructed and linked to the existing values in West Sumatra. This idea persuaded through discourses delivered in public spaces. It easier for Ulama as local actors with a reputation in West Sumatra to localize norms originating from WHO.
