From Embryo to Adult: Low Temperatures Affect Phase Transitions of Allium sativum L. from Germination to Flowering

Abstract: Juvenile and vegetative adult shoot apical meristems (SAM) are actively involved in acquisition of flowering competence, while the embryonic SAM is regarded as “responsible” only for germination. Comparative analyses of imbibed and stratified seeds of garlic Allium sativum show that only stratified seedlings produced bulbs and flower stems at the end of the season. Since the seed morphology of stratified and non-stratified seeds prior to sowing was similar, the differences are attributed to the molecular alter… Show more

“…Flowering and seed-setting genotype #87 was selected in 2004 from a segregating seedling population and then clonally propagated at the Agricultural Research Organization (ARO), Volcani Center, Israel. For transcriptome sequencing, tissue was sampled from vegetative and reproductive organs at different stages of plant development and after cold-storage treatments (Additional le 4: Table S2), [11,12,19,51].…”

“…The gray boxes represent the reads for expression of the transcriptome sequence of the individual owers [51] upstream and downstream of the genomic sequence of AsLFY2. C Transcriptome analysis of AsLFYs in vegetative and reproductive tissues and seeds of garlic [11,12,19,51]. The expression values were computed as FPKM, and used to create a heat map by one minus Pearson correlation, using MORPHEUS (https://software.broadinstitute.org/morpheus).…”
