In this work, biodegradable and polyester-based vitrimers possessing dynamic ester bonds are prepared by chemically cross-linking −OH-containing poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) with the formation of interchain ester bonds. In enzymatic biodegradation tests, the vitrimers demonstrate high extents of degradation (of about 85−90 wt %) after 60 days at 37 °C. The excess hydroxyl groups in the vitrimers bring a catalytic effect to transesterification. The catalyst-free vitrimers exhibit a stress relaxation time of 390 s at 190 °C, an activation energy of 45.0 kJ mol −1 , a glass transition temperature of 8.0 °C, and a topology freezing transition temperature of 48.7 °C. Possessing dynamic ester bonds at both PGS main chains and the side cross-linking sites, the vitrimers exhibit topography isomerization and changes in their mechanical properties under thermally recycling processes. The biodegradable PGS has been demonstrated as an effective precursor for preparation of the corresponding vitrimers. Moreover, the mechanical changes and topography isomerization of the vitrimers in the recycling processes could be of interest for further studies and potential applications.

Polyimide materials with high mechanical strength are widely used in various fields, but pose certain challenges in achieving sustainable material utilization. A poly(imide‐imide) vitrimer material (ADTA) based on multiple dynamic covalent bonds (imide, imine, and disulfide bonds) was constructed by preparing vanillin difunctionalized derivatives (DVA) for aldolamine condensation reactions with bis‐amine monomers (ATFA) and tris(2‐aminoethyl) amines (TAEA) with imide structures. The ADTA material has good 5% thermal stability Td5% (278.87°C), high energy storage modulus E (2421.26 MPa), and fast relaxation time (36.39 s). The thermal stability and mechanical properties of the material are enhanced by the more stable alicyclic structure of the imide structure. The material also demonstrated excellent solvent resistance and self‐healing properties. This study provides a new option for the development of sustainable utilization of polyimide materials.

The scientific strategies reported in the literature for developing biobased epoxy vitrimers are summarized. Biomass resources such as lignin, cellulose, or different vegetable oils can be exploited as biobased building blocks for epoxy thermosets as an alternative to the bisphenol‐A‐based ones. Biorenewable resources have been synthesized introducing dynamic covalent bonds in the cross‐linked networks. This combination allows to achieve cross‐linked biobased epoxy networks with thermoset‐like properties at a temperature of use, but showing (re)processability, recyclability, and self‐healing properties above a well‐defined temperature named topology freezing transition temperature (Tv).
