From 360° camera toward to virtual map app: Designing low‐cost pilot study

Abstract: Currently, virtual reality (VR) is a trend both in general and in specific fields such as interactive maps. The article aims to test the possibilities of deployment of low-cost virtual reality environment for the 3D spatial panoramic application. It discusses and compares modern trends in hardware (panoramic cameras and glasses) and software in the field of virtual reality. Many panoramic map applications (e.g., the well-known "Google Street View") allow us to navigate through applications using VR headsets or… Show more

“…The visual perception of landscape needs to be personally perceived from an all-round perspective. It is the development trend of landscape visual quality assessment based on human perspective in the future to use virtual reality, 3D model or 360 • panoramic interaction to visualize and evaluate the landscape [70,71]. For the assessment of the objective subject of landscape visual quality, the application of intelligent algorithms to the assessment of FLVQ will further promote the development of quantitative research towards digitization and visualization.…”

“…At present, in the field of marine engineering, there are few reported cases of developing a simulation system for scientific research experiments and teaching using the Browser-Server (B/S) mode with the help of panoramic interaction information technology based on the world's advanced land-based ship engine room laboratory (Zhou, 2019;Sardar et al, 2022;Seok & Hur, 2022;Roh et al, 2019;Netek et al, 2020;Lasalandra et al, 2020;Cao, 2022;Li et al, 2013;Shih et al, 2022). To make up for the shortage of land-based engine room laboratories in scientific research and teaching, the project team developed a land-based ship engine room experiment and teaching simulation system.…”
