Fringing Field Capacitive Smart Sensor Based on PCB Technology for Measuring Water Content in Paper Pulp

Abstract: We present a capacitive smart sensor based on printed circuit board (PCB) technology to measure the amount of water content in a paper pulp at the wet end of a paper machine. The developed sensor incorporates in the same PCB the signal processing circuits. It is a handheld portable device, and its output is sent to the reading equipment using a Bluetooth wireless connection, providing to the sensor’s operator ease of mobility around the wet end of a paper machine. The prototype was tested in a laboratory, usin… Show more

“…In order to keep the signal processing circuit small, low cost, simple, and robust, Morais et al used a novel direct interface sensor-to-microcontroller circuit technique for capacitance measurement, and it was allowed to measure small capacitance deviations without a high frequency oscillator [10]. Most of these studies are about the analysis of data, and there is too little research about smart sensors in public art.…”

“…In the formula, t is the battery plate area; Δm is the return voltage; f is a constant; n is the mass node mass; x is the inertial acceleration; w is the distance between the upper and lower battery plates [22]. The direction in which the speed is generated on the human body is along the X axis, and the speed can be calculated by Equation (2).…”
