Abstract:Terrestrial optical interferometers have produced the first resolved images of main-sequence stellar surfaces by using long co-phased baselines and correcting for atmospheric errors using fringe tracking and closure phases. These stellar surface images are helpful for understanding the formation, dynamical structure, and evolution of stars, and also for evaluating the potential habitability of exoplanetary systems. However, the astronomical targets suitable for ground based interferometric imaging remain limit… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
