Fringe projection profilometry based on a novel phase shift method

Abstract: Fringe projection profilometry is generally used to measure the 3D shape of an object. In oblique-angle projection, the grating fringe cycle is broadened on the reference surface. A well-fitted, convenient, and quick cycle correction method is proposed in this study. Based on the proposed method, an accurate four-step phase shift method is developed. Comparative experiments show that the fringe projection profilometry based on the novel phase shift method can eliminate cycle error and significantly improve mea… Show more

“…These deformed patterns carry the information of surface shape, and hence can be used to retrieve the profile of the object. Many approaches have been developed during the past decades for FPP, e.g., Fourier transform profilometry (FTP) [2], phase shifting profilometry (PSP) [3][4][5], modulation measurement profilometry (MMP) [6], spatial phase detection (SPD) [7,8], phase lock loop (PLL) profilometry [9], Moiré technique (MT) [10], laser triangulation measurement [11], color-coded fringe projection [12][13][14] and other methods [15,16]. Among these approaches, the most widely used are those based on analysis of the phase maps of the fringe patterns, such as FTP and PSP.…”

“…He analyzed the wrapped phase distribution of the reference plane through static phase measuring profilometry and modified the periods of projected grating gradually with an iterative algorithm. Zhang and Fu et al [17][18][19] proposed a novel uneven fringe projection technique to obtain evenly spaced fringes in the measurement volume. Chen and Quan [20] determined the relationship between the fringe cycle of the projection surface and that of the reference surface.…”

“…The surface profile is obtained by detecting the phase maps of the two fringe patterns. A number of fringe pattern analysis methods have been developed, such as Fourier transform profilometry (FTP), 2 phase shifting profilometry (PSP), [3][4][5] modulation measurement profilometry, 6 spatial phase detection, 7,8 phase lock loop profilometry, 9 Moire technique, 10 laser triangulation measurement, 11 color-coded fringe projection, [12][13][14] and other methods. 15,16 Among these existing approaches, FTP and PSP are the most popular and widely used.…”
