Tillmann-Healy (2003) gave a "close friend" definition as "somebody to talk to, to depend on and rely on for help, support, and caring, and to have fun and enjoy doing things with" (p. 730). Friendships are also characterized by words such as voluntary, intimate, trust, respect, commitment, generosity, loyalty, and acceptance (Rybak & McAndrew, 2006).
