Friction Stir Welding in the Aircraft Production

Abstract: The paper presents the results of experimental development of the technology of friction stir welding to obtain a nonseparable connection of a special aerospace aluminum, titanium and magnesium alloys, high-temperature steels. Regularities and models of heat balance in the welding zone have been determined, which make it possible to predict the technological possibilities of high-speed friction welding. It is established that high-speed friction welding by mixing allows to obtain a high-quality connection at l… Show more

“…In this case, the trend is to use manufacturing processes that have less impact on the environment, such as friction welding. This is a process where a rotating nonconsumable tool is positioned between two sheets or plates of materials to be welded, resulting in little distortion, great dimensional stability, and little residual stress ( Kuritsyn et al, 2020 ). This process consumes little energy and produces minimal if any material waste.…”

“…The specimens marked 3 and 4 delaminated much faster than the other specimens after exceeding 150 MPa, a phenomenon that may have been caused by previous microcracks in the structure of the specimens. [14] The obtained dependence is characteristic for brittle materials, because the maximum loading force destroys the sample. The tensile strength value of the composite laminate Rm is equal to 419 ± 29.7 MPa.…”
