Friction and wear behavior of carbon fiber reinforced lithium aluminosilicate composites sliding against GCr15 steel

Abstract: Carbon fibers reinforced lithium aluminosilicate matrix composites (C f /LAS) were prepared by slurry infiltration combined with a hot press procedure. The friction, wear behavior, and wear mechanisms of C f /LAS composites under dry sliding conditions were investigated. The results show that the coefficient of friction (COF) initially increased with the increase in carbon fiber content, and reached the maximum value of 0.20 for the 33%C f /LAS composite. The COF increased sharply with increasing sample temper… Show more

“…Then the formed layer would protect the interior graphite from being oxidized again, which leads to the preservation of the graphite and subsequently the superior lubricating performance at high temperature even under the air atmosphere. With that, the tribological performance of the prepared coating is much better relative to the similar type of coatings such as graphenemodified WC-12Co [45] and carbon fiber reinforced Li 2 O-Al 2 O 3 -4SiO 2 composites [46], and better than or at least comparable with many other high-temperature lubricating coatings that have been summarized in [7].…”

“…GCr15 bearing steel is a widely used raw material for gears, bearings, and transmission shafts due to its excellent mechanical properties [1]. It mainly reduces friction between various parts in mechanical equipment, xing parts, and transmitting loads.…”

“…Taking the world's largest bearing producer as an example, China's annual demand for bearing steel is about 3.7 million tons [4], and 100Cr6 and 100CrMn6 are still the main varieties, accounting for more than 95% of the total. During the bearing work, the existence of sliding friction inevitably causes wear of bearing parts [5]. If the wear resistance of the bearing steel is poor, the bearing will lose its accuracy prematurely, and the life of the bearing will decrease due to the decrease in rotation accuracy.…”
