In addition to causing AChE inhibition and altered neuromuscular function (Fulton and Key, 2001), organophosphate pesticides can also cause oxidative stress (Negro et al, 2011), gill damage (Lignot et al, 1997) and metabolic disturbances (Tu et al, 2010). Exposure to organophosphate pesticides prior to shipment therefore have the potential to impair the ability of lobster to cope with subsequent stressors and increase mortality during shipment, resulting in economic loss.…”
