RESUMO -O presente trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar o crescimento da microalga (MA) Dunaliella tertiolecta pela biofixação do CO 2 liberado pela produção de cerveja, determinando futuramente os carotenoides naturais produzidos. Para isso a microalga foi cultivada em sistemas integrados entre fotobiorreatores e fermentadores. A diferença nos cultivos foi o tipo e a quantidade de CO 2 produzida pelas fermentações.
INTRODUÇÃOA emissão de gases do efeito estufa continua crescendo, chegando ao máximo já registrado em 2010. O dióxido de carbono (CO 2 ) representa atualmente 60 % destes gases (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2014). Em comparação com o volume de CO 2 produzido pela combustão de combustíveis fósseis, a quantidade de CO 2 emitida por fermentação para se obter etanol -fonte renovável -é pequena. No entanto, há um crescimento na produção de biocombustíveis acompanhado a regulamentos mais restritivos quanto à liberação do seu CO 2 para a atmosfera. Com a sua captura, pode-se obter um balanço negativo de CO 2 na atmosfera (Mollersten et al., 2003; Kheshgi and Prince,2005 apud Xu, Isom e Hanna, 2010). Já a bebida alcoólica mais consumida no mundo, a cerveja, contribui com uma quantidade significativa de CO 2 se comparada aos biocombustíveis, conforme mostra a Tabela 1, e o seu percentual de pureza chega a 99 % (Xu, Isom e Hanna, 2010), muito mais elevado do que o CO 2 de combustíveis fósseis, permitindo a sua utilização na produção de alimentos, por exemplo.Área temática: Processos Biotecnológicos 1
