“…An Indian study showed that the Rome III criteria for IBS were equally fulfilled among patients with constipation with or without FED. 136 In a Thai study, of 50 patients with FED, 29 (58.0%) fulfilled Rome II criteria for IBS; patients with or without IBS demonstrated similar responses to biofeedback therapy. 137 These Asian studies suggest that patients with FED may present as constipation-predominant IBS.…”

“…Patient perception is important for assessment of subjective symptoms and categorization of non-organic GI disorders that are diagnosed by symptom-based criteria. Some Indian data do suggest relationship between patient-perceived incomplete evacuation and straining and abnormal physiology among patients with CC [ 22 ]. Moreover, studies from India (MIIBS study) as well as the West suggest that patients' perception, which not only depends on pathophysiology but also on socio-cultural factors determine symptom reporting and may increase the diagnostic sensitivity of symptom-based criteria [ 21 , 23 , 24 ].…”

“…19 Also, patients diagnosed with fecal evacuation disorders may fulfill criteria for IBS-C that may improve following correction of the dyssynergia with biofeedback therapy. 20,21 Moreover, there is considerable overlap between functional bowel disorders with gastroduodenal disorders. In a recent rural community study from India, of 3426 adult subjects, 413 (15.0%) and 75 (2.7%) had dyspepsia and IBS alone, and 115 (4.1%) had dyspepsia-IBS overlap.…”
