Frequency Reconfigurable Low-Profile UWB Magneto-Electric Dipole in VHF Band

Abstract: Reducing the size of directive and wideband antennas operating in the Very High-Frequency band is a major challenge for small satellite integration. At 100 MHz, the wavelength is 3 m, and the size reduction will make the integration easier and reduces fabrication costs. The original technique presented in this paper enables a significant height reduction (up to 50%) of a crossed Magneto-Electric Dipole antenna while maintaining an ultra-wideband operation bandwidth from 93 to 360 MHz (118%). The proposed techn… Show more

“…In Liu et al, 18 a profile of 0.079λ 0 is achieved by using a dual-complementary source. A low-profile ME dipole was designed in Kaddour et al, 19 which has a thickness of 0.1λ 0 by loading capacitors. Additionally, fractal structures [20][21][22] can also be used to improve antenna performance, such as by extending bandwidth, and reducing antenna size, by utilizing the self-similarity and space-filling properties of fractal structures.…”

“…An antenna usually develops an antenna design with a small size and an omnidirectional radiation pattern in the form of a printed monopole structure. The configurable antenna is also required for the UWB antenna design [4], [5].…”

“…The circular monopole antenna as on [5], [15]- [18] can produce the Antenna with UWB characteristics, but by adding the SRR, L-shape stub, and annular ring, the antenna structure will contribute to the design complexity of the antenna. Meanwhile, the antenna with a rectangular patch structure [5], [19]- [24], which is designed to have UWB characteristic, generally still have an antenna structure with that relatively large dimension.…”
