Frequency Excursion and Temperature control of Combined Cycle Gas Plant Including SMES

Abstract: This paper presents a MATLAB-SIMULINK based Dynamic model of a combined cycle stand alone gas power plant the transfer function model of load frequency and temperature control loop has been developed. The objective of this proposed work is to regulate the frequency and temperature in order to maintain the system stability of the power plant. Since most of the loads are induction type and the induction motor speed is directly proportional to frequency, the frequency has to be maintained within the limits. If te… Show more

“…In a CCGT plant, the gas turbine provides two-thirds of the total unit power output and the steam turbine provides the other one-third. Practically, the overall thermal efficiency of the power plant, in a combined cycle system, increases from 37% to 57-61% [11,12]. In the CCGT, the air is compressed isentropically in the compressor before being fed into a combustion chamber, where it mixes with the natural gas from the fuel supply system and burned to produce hot gases.…”

“…Moreover, combined cycle plants involved by the new combustion techniques implemented in the GT technology allow achieving lower rates of NOx emissions and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by up to 75% [6,7]. This kind of power plants based on this technology, reached a high efficiency up to 60% by producing great output power compared to the conventional power plants [8,9]. Furthermore, important increase efficiency can be reached by using natural gas instead of fossil fuels [10].…”

“…Combined cycle gas turbines (CCGTs) are widely used because they can reach a higher efficiency by producing a great amount of electrical power with low carbon dioxide emissions, compared with conventional plants [1,2]. Nowadays, there is an increasing interest in combined cycle gas turbines, especially in countries endowed with huge natural gas resources [3].…”
