Abstract: Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic has put significant stress on healthcare systems globally. This study focuses on emergency general surgery services at a major trauma centre and teaching hospital. “…We have also observed a faster relocation of the Non-COVID patient's therapy to the outpatient setting, leading to a shorter median LOS of 3 days (reduction of 25%) in the examined period of 2020. The same trend was reported by Patel et al in his cohort with a signi cant reduction of LOS from 3 to 2 days (p = 0.04) [12].…”

This therapy is in the literature stated as a feasible and save option, but with an increased risk for appendicitis recurrence [13,14].…”

“…Despite testing negative for SARS-CoV-2, CT fractures were more comorbid, less active and frailer than PCT patients, depicting an epidemiological shift. Such epidemiological changes have also been reported in other surgical specialties during the pandemic [23,24]. The degree of frailty and the number and severity of associated comorbidities have already been described as a useful tool to predict outcomes in elderly patients with COVID-19 [25].…”

“…COVID-19 has placed an unprecedented pressure on all aspects of the NHS 4 . Although the total number of surgical cases has decreased, there has been a constant demand on operating theatres across all surgical specialities 5 . Significant changes in OR pathways, personal protective equipment (PPE), and altered thresholds for both surgery and general anaesthesia, have led to a relatively unfamiliar OR environment.…”
