Freeze-dried multiscale porous nanofibrous three dimensional scaffolds for bone regenerations

Abstract: Introduction: Simulating hydrophobic-hydrophilic composite face with hierarchical porous and fibrous architectures of bone extracellular matrix (ECM) is a key aspect in bone tissue engineering. This study focused on the fabrication of new three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds containing polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), with and without graphene oxide (GO) nanoparticles using the chemical cross-linking and freeze-drying methods for bone tissue application. The effects of GO o… Show more

“…The potential of mesenchymal stem cells is being actively studied in various in vitro and in vivo works to investigate the possibilities for the treatment of a wide range of pathologies, including bone, 9 cartilage, 10 and skin damage. The clinical efficacy of MSCs in the short term has been already demonstrated, however, the question of utmost importance is the efficacy and safety of MSC-based therapy in the long term.…”

“…The scaffolds exhibited randomly oriented nanofibers of 2 and 650 nm and compressive moduli of 620 and 130 kPa, respectively. Human ADSCs seeded on stiffer PTFE/PVA/GO scaffolds revealed a significant elevation in ALP activity, calcium deposition, and osteogenic related genes expression as compared to the softer scaffold without graphene oxide [192].…”

“…Meanwhile the roughness of pore structure and the specific surface area of the composite also increased due to the embedding of phase change microcapsules. 49 The water absorption curves of various samples are shown in Fig. 3.…”
