Free Radical Scavenging and Antioxidant Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized from Cuminum cyminum (Cumin) seed Extract

Abstract: Silver nanoparticles are extensive, applied in different fields. Green methods using plants have been used as renewable resources for the synthesis of biodegraded nanomaterials, thereby providing economic and safe synthesis routes. The green synthesis was done using the aqueous Cumin seed extract and as a bio-reducer agent and aqueous AgNO3 solution as a precursor under various conditions. The formation of silver nanoparticles was confirmed by the observation of the shift in color from colorless to dark brown.… Show more

“…The DPPH assay is commonly applied to evaluate the antioxidant potential due to its sensitivity to determine low concentrations of active components [76]. It is a nitrogencentered free radical; therefore, any substance that scavenges remarkable amounts of DPPH could reduce the quantities of other reactive nitrogen species in living cells.…”

“…The IC 50 value based on H 2 O 2 scavenging activity ranged from 21.28 to 14.98 μg/ml (Figure 8C). In the presence of phenolic compounds, AgNPs contain hydrogen ions that are suspected of being responsible for the generation of dose‐dependent H 2 O 2 radicals. 49 The AgNPs synthesizing using Solanum trilobatum had an IC 50 value of 25.40 μg/ml 50 and the IC 50 values for NPs synthesized using Lactobacillus plantarum varied between 74 μg/ml to standard at 37 μg/ml.…”

“…Free radical scavenging and antioxidant activity of silver nanoparticles synthesized from Cuminum cyminum (Cumin) seed extract could be used as an effective antioxidant 52 . However, C. cyminum roots, stems and leaves, and flowers were investigated for their total phenolic, flavonoids, and tannins contents.…”
