Abstract:INTRODUCCIÓN: durante la pandemia de COVID-19 se reportaron casos de hiperglucemia en pacientes hospitalizados con y sin diabetes mellitus. La hiperglucemia podría deberse al estado pro inflamatorio de la enfermedad, uso de corticoides, daño directo e indirecto del virus hacia las células pancreáticas, disfunción endotelial, entre otros. La hiperglucemia es una complicación muy común en las enfermedades infecciosas; incrementa la estadía hospitalaria, la mortalidad y complicaciones.
