Framework for resolving problems resulting from lean integration from the early design phases of production 3D printing machine

Abstract: We focus on improving the performance of production machines (timesaving, flexibility, cost-effectiveness, safety) from the early design phase. Lean integration during the design phases might be a more appropriate solution, but this could be a source of some contradictions related to the machine performance and the usage requirements. In this paper, we propose an approach, based on Lean and Inventive Design Methodology (IDM-TRIZ), to identify and resolve these contradictions due to the Lean integration and als… Show more

“… The completeness of some missing information in the GTP is thanks to the collected mathematical models concerning the relationship between various parameters, e.g., equations ( 1) and (2), attributed. This confirms the argument of [15] that the law governing the parameters could help complete the information in such a table. On the other hand, it is thanks to the ease of computer modeling software such as PTC Creo and ABAQUS.…”

“…However, it can be seen that one of the main limitations of IDM is the heavy reliance on experts' opinions and interviews. In the same direction, [15] developed an approach to enable design problem selection, based on qualitative information, through interviews with problem experts.…”

“…IDM is a framework that has been developed to solve the limitations of TRIZ and to complement its body of knowledge with other theories such as Pugh's theory or graph theory [10]. This framework consists of the following phases [11,12]: 1. Initial Analysis phase: In this phase, at the outset, the designers should gather all the relevant knowledge from internal documents and patents, tacit expert's know-how, and other documents related to the subject.…”

“…Addressing the aforementioned issues, scholars and practitioners have proposed innovative solutions to assist micro businesses in recovering from the crisis (Fabeil et al, 2020). An example is the integration of lean practices and TRIZ, which are problem-solving methodologies implemented in many industries (Slim et al, 2021). Specifically, lean practices aim to identify and eliminate waste in business procedures, while TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) is a systematic innovation method emphasizing the application of inventive principles and patterns to mitigate complex issues (Alʹtshuller, 1999).…”
