Augmented reality is one of the technologies that will impact teaching and learning. When augmented reality is applied in an educational setting, it can provide a superior learning environment because educators can add specific virtual information to enrich the existing learning materials or to create new learning materials that integrate the environment. Therefore, discussions on augmented reality applications for learning can be vastly found in the literature. Each application utilizes the resources available by using approaches appropriate for the learning outcome in question. The key problem with achieving learning outcome in analyzing group one elements in a periodic table is that some students have difficulties in visualizing an atom and what more to relate them with reactivity. The objective of this paper aims to design and develop a learning application that supports science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education based on guided discovery learning to assist the students through questions based on exposure to various evidence via augmented reality. This application incorporates the use of a 3D model of atoms and video of real experiments. Action research is used to solve an existing problem in a selected school. The application was evaluated by 25 students aged 16 years in a secondary school in Malaysia and has proven to be useful to improve the students' marks in tests conducted at the end of the application usage. The students can get many benefits from using the augmented reality based application because it supports Education 4.0 like flexibility in teaching and learning where learning is freed for the limitation of time, place, and pace of study.

UCD (User Centered Design) is a design philosophy of putting users at the center of a system development process. The difficulties experienced by the tourists who visited West Sumatra during traveling is in communicating which can be helped by using UCD method. The approach using UCD method has been supported by various techniques, methods, tools, procedures and processes that help to design more user-centered applications. In the UCD method the user is at the level of design sophistication of all interfaces used based on the guide application. In making the application, the tool used in designing tourist guide application design is using Unified Modeling Language (UML). Data excavation is done by interview and observation to the end user, and library study. Tour guide application built using eclipse with SQLite database storage media. The result of this design is expected to provide convenience to the tourists in making tourism visits to West Sumatra.

Learning Chemistry course is considered as a difficult task for many learners especially for elementary school students. This is related to understanding different concepts chemical reactions atoms structures, physical representations of molecules, etc. One way to facilitate the learning process of chemistry course is to use Mobile Learning (m-learning) technology. M-learning has different added values compared to classical learning materials such as text book, pictures, etc. Among the different added values of using mobile in educational contexts is the fact that smartphone has richer interaction techniques. Furthermore, smartphones and tablets PC are considered as more attractive for students. Also, there has been a rapid growth in the mobile technology concerning hardware and software. Accordingly, with the widespread use of smartphones and tablets, researchers start investigating the use of such devices in different educational contexts. The use of mobile learning is considered as a recent trend in Palestinian elementary schools and there is a minimal research attention has been directed to the student’s attitudes and satisfaction in using m-learning in their learning process. Therefore, our work aims at investigating the use of m-learning by students in elementary schools in Palestine. In particular, we focused on female students as in general female students show less interest in science and technology than male students. We were keen to investigate whether the use of m-learning could change this attitude. Therefore, an educational mobile application called ChemApp was developed to help learners to learn different concepts in chemistry course such as elements’ order in the periodic table, electronic distribution, atomic and mass numbers, chemical bonds and formula. By using the ChemApp, the students are able to interact with different components to explore the possible reactions in an interactive interface, to understand the structure and shape of atoms and molecules. The ChemApp was evaluated by a class of 13-14 years old (8th grade) students in a Palestinian primary school. The total number of participants was 30 female students. After analyzing the results, we conclude that these female students had a positive attitude toward the use of m-learning in their learning process of chemistry course. The results of this research work can be considered by policy and decision makers in educational institutions
