“…Figure (b) shows SEM image of a single CNW grown at the tip of W needle. As it was shown previously, the CNW deposited under influence of focused electron beam in the chamber of SEM have amorphous structure with 2200 kg m −3 density. Therefore, Young's modulus of the studied nanowhiskers could be evaluated as E = 1.3 ± 0.1 × 10 10 Pa. For comparison, Young's modulus of single‐wall nanotubes, diamond and graphite are in the order of 1.2 × 10 12 , 8 × 10 11 , and 1.5 × 10 11 Pa, respectively.…”

“…It is worth noting that the presence of residual pressure and hydrocarbons in the SEM chamber makes it possible the formation of nanowhiskers under the influence of a focused electron beam (FEB). Interaction of the FEB with hydrocarbons of the precursor gas leads to carbon layer‐by‐layer deposition at exposed point . As a result, growth of CNW with a typical length of 2–4 µm and a diameter of about 100 nm occurs.…”

“…Such configuration of NMO can be used for nanosensors including probes for scanning probe microscope [15]. In our experiments, the CNW's resonant frequencies and characteristic sizes are comparable with those of W tips.…”
