“…shown to have a higher risk of severe complications in a study by Di Donato et al 29 Inci et al showed that frail patients had five times higher risk of complications. 30 In a study comparing women with residual disease 1-10 mm after PDS with women with R0 after IDS by Ghirardi et al, the rate of complications was 15%, which is similar to our rates. The women treated with PDS had a higher rate of both intraoperative complications (16.9% vs 1.3%) and postoperative complications (28.8% vs 2.0%) compared with those treated with IDS.…”

“…The rate of severe complications differs in published studies, from 19.7% in a study by Fagotti et al to 4.9% in a study by Di Donato et al 28,29 The differences may depend on patient selection, surgical approach and how complications are reported and measured. According to previous studies, frailty is common in advanced ovarian cancer patients and results in a higher degree of severe complications and an affected survival 18,30 . Patients where a high frailty score was combined with an intermediate/high SCS were shown to have a higher risk of severe complications in a study by Di Donato et al 29 Inci et al showed that frail patients had five times higher risk of complications 30 …”

“…So far, scant evidence has underscored the association between the deficit accumulation model of Rockwood and the main clinical outcomes in older adults with cancer. Inci et al performed a prospective study enrolling 144 patients with ovarian cancer undergoing cytoreductive surgery, evaluating the predictive value of the frailty index on severe postoperative complications and overall survival [28]. The main results showed that a frailty index >0.26 (OR 3.64, 95% CI: 1.34-9.85, p = 0.01) was highly predictive of severe postoperative complications, whereas a frailty index >0.15 (HR 1.87, 95% CI: 1.01-3.47, p = 0.048) showed poor survival during a median follow-up observation of 37.6 months.…”

“…To estimate the extent of the disease and resectability, different imaging modalities are used. To predict the risk of major complications concerning extensive cytoreduction, numerous patient-related factors need to be considered, which include the use of frailty indexes [5][6][7].…”
