Fragmentation pathways of protonated coumarin by ESI‐QE‐Orbitrap‐MS/MS coupled with DFT calculations

Abstract: Coumarin is one of the basic structures of naturally oxygen heterocyclic compound, which was investigated in this paper for its gas-phase fragmentation behaviors using electrospray quadrupole extractive orbitrap mass spectrometry in the positive mode. The possible fragmentation pathways were proposed based on electrospray ionization (ESI)-mass spectrometry (MS)/MS data and theory calculation. The elimination of two CO and CO 2 was observed for protonated coumarin, which was followed by the formation of a stabil… Show more

“…The subclasses flavonols, flavanone, flavone, flavanonol, isoflavonoid, and anthocyanidin were found represented by aglycones and glycosides. The data were found consistent with those in the literature [17][18][19][20][21][22][23]. Figure 1 shows the structures and fragmentation pattern in positive ion mode for the identified aglycones.…”

“…In this work, 18 coumarins were detected in the pomelo peel extracts. In the positive patterns, the removal of neutral small molecules of CH 3 , H 2 O, CO, CO 2 , 2CO (CO+CO 2 ), and 3CO can be observed [21].…”

“…Fourteen coumarins were identified in CSF extracts. In the positive mode, the fragmentation of coumarins from mass spectrometry was characterized by the loss of neutral molecules, such as CO, CO 2 , and CH 3 , because of high-energy collisions …”
