Fragmentation of Valence and Carbon Core Excited and Ionized CH2FCF3 Molecule

Abstract: The photofragmentation dynamics of 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (R134a) with photon energies from 12 eV up to 320 eV, surrounding the C 1s edge is discussed. The ionic moieties were measured in coincidence with the ejected electrons (PEPICO mode), and detected as a function of the photon energy. Around the C K core edge, the fragmentation profiles are examined regarding the site specific excitation of the CH2FCF3 molecule. In the present case, site-selectivity is favored by the distinct chemical environments surr… Show more

“…Tetrafluoroethane, CF 3 CH 2 F, also known as R134a, is a HFC compound widely used as refrigerant in automotive air conditioning, domestic refrigeration systems and aerosol applications. , The R134a molecule has become one of the best substitutes for chlorine-related compounds due to its low GWP value (1430) and an atmospheric lifetime of 13.8 years . That is consequence of the reactivity with hydroxyl radicals (OH • ) found in the troposphere, which leads to smaller atmospheric accumulations.…”

“…However, the values of the fitting parameters do not affect the conclusions about the KO and SO processes. In addition, the structure around 40 eV is not clearly due to KO process; it is also found in single ionization of SUVA 14 and C 2 Cl 4 28 molecules.…”

“…The experimental setup has been described in detail in a previous work. 14 Briefly, the experiments were executed at the D05A -TGM 17 beamline at Laborat orio Nacional de Luz Síncrotron (LNLS) in Campinas, Brazil. The source of EUV and X-ray radiation was a bending magnet that enabled us to work in the photon energy range of 21.21 to 320 eV.…”

“…The experiment has been described in detail previously [4]. Briefly, in our experiment, we make use of coincident detection, in which two or more particles are observed and the interdependencies of their properties can thus be determined.…”
