Background/purposeAn ideal post material should have physical and mechanical properties similar to dentin. Another problem when restoring primary teeth that have undergone root canal treatment is the availability of materials that are resorbed in the exfoliation process in a manner similar to the structure of the natural tooth, allowing the normal eruption of a permanent tooth. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of using dentine posts on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated primary incisors in comparison to glass fiber posts. Materials and methodsThe study sample consisted of 30 extracted primary maxillary incisors that were randomly distributed into the following two groups: group I (experimental, n=15), which was restored with dentine posts; and group II (control, n=15), which was restored with glass fiber posts. Initially, 10 extracted single-root permanent teeth were collected to prepare 20 dentine posts using a computer-aided design-computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) machine. Then, the crowns of maxillary primary incisors were cut and the canals were prepared and filled. Then the preparation for a post was made using Gates Glidden drills, and the posts were placed with an extension of 3 mm within the canal in both groups, then the crown was built and the teeth were placed within acrylic cubes and subjected to 500 thermocycling. Fracture resistance was recorded using a Testometric machine (Rochdale, England: Testometric Co. Ltd.). Data were analyzed using an independent Student's t-test. ResultsThe dentine posts group showed greater fracture resistance (246.3 N) than the glass fiber posts group (206.3 N). A statistically significant difference (p=0.004) was found between the two groups in favor of the dentine posts group. ConclusionBased on this in vitro study, the dentin posts used in restoring severely decayed primary maxillary incisors showed greater fracture resistance than glass fiber posts. Therefore, the use of dentin posts as intra-canal stabilizers in maxillary primary incisors is a good alternative for glass fiber posts.

Aim and Background: Restoration of severely damaged primary anterior teeth are deemed as serious challenges for pediatric dentists. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fracture resistance of primary canines restored with flowable or packable composite resin posts. Material and Methods This study was conducted on a group of extracted primary canines. After cutting the coronal section, standard pulpectomy was performed and root canals were filled with ZOE paste leaving 3 mm coronal root space. A liner was placed above the root canal filling as a barrier. Samples were then randomly divided into two groups of fifteen. Both groups, received etch, bond, then in group I Core Flo Composite resin placement into canal, in group II, post shaping using designated packable composite resin and inserted into the canal. Followed by Core buildup and Crown reconstruction using Z250 composite resin. Samples were mounted at 148 ° angle on the acrylic blocks and stored in de-ionized water for 72 hours. Fracture resistance was measured using Universal Testing Machine. Data analysis were performed using independent t-test. Chi- square test were also employed to assess the type of fracture within groups. Results The mean fracture resistance in the group I was 830.31(+/-328.69N) and 803.09(+/-326.45N) in group II. Moreover, statistical analyses of the results showed no significant difference between the mean values of the fracture resistance (p-value=0.822) of groups as well as the type of fracture (p-value=0.79) between groups. Conclusion The ease of use and proper adhesion of the Core Flo composite resin, seems to help its use in the reconstruction of severely destructed anterior primary teeth.

Aim: This in-vitro study was conducted to assess the fracture resistance (FR) of different post and core systems for restoring pulpectomized primary incisors. Materials and methods: Forty extracted primary incisors were collected, prepared, and then obturated using Metapex. Teeth were allocated into four groups. Group (A): teeth restored with human dentin posts; Group (B): bovine dentin posts; Group (C): glass fiber posts; and Group (D): orthodontic stainless-steel wire in omega-form posts. Dentin blocks were obtained from the roots of extracted human maxillary premolars and bovine permanent incisors to fabricate the dentin posts. These blocks were formed into post shapes using a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine. The posts underwent cementation using glass ionomer cement, followed by coronal buildup with composite. After thermocycling, the FR and mode of failure were examined. The FR was analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test, while the mode of failure was analyzed using the Monte Carlo test. P-values ≤ 0.05 were used to determine statistical significance. Results: The median maximum compressive load in group (A) was 386.87 N, in group (B) it was 379.27 N, in group (C) it was 522.16 N, and in group (D) it was 469.14 N. The differences between the groups were not statistically significant regarding the maximum compressive load and the failure mode. Conclusion: Glass fiber posts and omega posts had higher FR compared to dentin posts, although the four groups can be used effectively for restoring pulpectomized primary incisors.
