Abstract:The aim of this study was to determine the fracture behavior of southern yellow pine (Pinus taeda L.) and red oak (Quercus falcata) wood under mode I loading in the tangential-radial and tangential-longitudinal crack propagation systems by a compact tension test method. The results of the study indicated that, in general, red oak had a significantly different fracture behavior than southern yellow pine for each of the two crack propagation systems. The fracture toughness was higher in the tangential-radial cra… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
