Abstract:Higher-order topological insulators host gapless states on hinges or corners of three-dimensional crystals. Recent studies suggested that even topologically trivial insulators may exhibit fractionally quantized charges localized at hinges or corners. Although most of the previous studies focused on two-dimensional systems, in this work, we take the initial step toward the systematic understanding of hinge and corner charges in three-dimensional insulators. We consider five crystal shapes of vertextransitive po… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
