Fractional flow reserve guided percutaneous coronary intervention results in reduced ischemic myocardium and improved outcomes

Abstract: Compared with angiography-guided PCI, FFR-guided PCI results in less repeat revascularization and a lower incidence of post PCI ischemia translating into improved survival, without an increase in complications.

“…1 Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and other solutions can reconstruct blood supply and restore the blood supply of ischemic myocardium rapidly and are widely used in clinical practice as the most effective method at present. 2,3 However, after PCI, myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, 4 saphenous vein bypass graft restenosis, the progression of inherent coronary artery lesions, heart dysfunction, decreased exercise tolerance, psychological disorders, and other problems could be raised. Thus, avoiding these problems, reducing the incidence of acute events, and promoting better recovery following PCI are important issues that must be urgently addressed.…”

“…Although a few papers have reported outcomes per-vessel interrogated [12,15], the majority of papers in the field have reported outcomes per-patient [5,7,16,17]. We felt it was best to provide clinical outcomes on a per-patient basis because death, MI and TVR are patient related events.…”

“…In this issue of CCI, Sawant et al provide the missing link connecting improved FFR‐guided PCI outcomes with improved ischemia reduction. The authors present a single‐center retrospective analysis of their prospective database of PCI patients.…”
