Abstract

, I was walking from the Memorial Union to Atanasoff Hall across the lawn at the central campus. Breathing the lightly chilly morning breeze filled with the familiar scent of fresh grass, I could not hold back the joy inside me. There are only a a few places in the world I would call home, and this is one of them. Iowa State, I am back. An hour ahead was my final exam. By noon, the good news came out as the sun broke the cloud. Nine years at Iowa State and six years on my dissertation research, I could not have gone through without the people around me. First and foremost, I would like to thank my advisor Jack Lutz for his invaluable help during my graduate study. He never told me what I should do, but he always steered me in the right direction when I was lost. Without his encouragement and guidance, I could not have persevered through all those years.
