Fractal Characteristics of Coal and Sandstone Failure under Different Unloading Confining Pressure Tests

Abstract: To analyze the fractal characteristics of coal rock failure under unloading conditions, triaxial unloading confining pressure tests were carried out on coal and sandstone rock samples under different unloading rates and initial confining pressures. We examined the distribution of the surface cracks and fragmentation of the coal and sandstone samples that failed under different triaxial unloading confining pressure tests. The results showed that the fractal dimension of the surface cracks in coal and sandstone … Show more

“…The fractal theory not only reflects the distribution characteristics of cracks, but also quantitatively describes the complexity of cracks. − Liu et al introduced fractal theory to study the quantitative relationship between gas adsorption and pore characteristics of bituminous coal. Based on CT scanning and fractal theory, Li et al − characterized the fracture network of coal. Zhao et al pointed out that the compressive strength of fractured rock mass decreases with the increase of fractal dimension.…”

“…e FLAC 3D numerical simulation software was used to establish an artificial dam model, on which graded water pressure was applied to study the water-rock migration interaction [21][22][23]. e limiting water head value that the artificial dam can bear, and the vulnerable position were determined, [24,25] and the fluidsolid coupling numerical model of the underground reservoir under the coupled action of mining and flooding was constructed [16]. rough underground sampling, the rock fragmentation characteristics [27] and size effect test were carried out to analyze the deformation behavior of underwater coal and rock [28,29].…”
