FPGA Implementation of a Special-Purpose VLIW Structure for Double-Precision Elementary Function

Abstract: In the current article, the capability and flexibility of field programmable gate-arrays (FPGAs) to implement IEEE-754 double-precision floating-point elementary functions are explored. To perform various elementary functions on the unified hardware efficiently, we propose a special-purpose very long instruction word (VLIW) processor, called DP VELP.
