Fourth-Generation Refrigerant:HFO 1234yf

Abstract: Refrigeration is a process to transfer heat from the objects for cooling and freezing for maintaining the temperature of surroundings for preservation purposes and comfort. Refrigerants are the materials to use in air-conditioning and refrigeration system. This article describes the developments and history of the first-, second-, third-and fourth-generation refrigerants. Moreover, the focus is on a fourth-generation refrigerant, viz. HFO-1234yf having zero ozone depletion potential and very low global warming… Show more

“…Energy savings in refrigeration systems can be achieved through decreased power consumption of the compressor, as this is the component that utilizes the most energy. Refrigerant trends in Thailand have shown improvements in increasing energy efficiency and decreasing global-warming potential (GWP), as shown in Figure 3 [7,8], which is related to the annual basis. The majority are open 24 hours per day, so the retail sector is the fourth largest consumer of energy in the business sector, consuming more energy than residences do [2].…”

“…The refrigerant trends in Thailand has shown progressive improvement in increasing energy efficiency, and at the same time decrease global warming potential (GWP), as shown in Figure 3 below, which is related to the HFCs phase-down schedule, as shown in Figure 4 below [4][5][6]. First and second-generation refrigerants were composed of natural refrigerants and hydrocarbons (HCs), both of which does not impact the environment, has a low global warming potential (GWP), and a zeroozone depletion potential (ODP).…”
