We experimentally demonstrate wavelength conversion in the 2 µm region by four-wave mixing in an AsSe and a GeAsSe chalcogenide photonic crystal fibers. A maximum conversion efficiency of −25.4 dB is measured for 112 mW of coupled continuous wave pump in a 27 cm long fiber. We estimate the dispersion parameters and the nonlinear refractive indexes of the chalcogenide PCFs, establishing a good agreement with the values expected from simulations. The different fiber geometries and glass compositions are compared in terms of performance, showing that GeAsSe is a more suited candidate for nonlinear optics at 2 µm. Building from the fitted parameters we then propose a new tapered GeAsSe PCF geometry to tailor the waveguide dispersion and lower the zero dispersion wavelength (ZDW) closer to the 2 µm pump wavelength. Numerical simulations shows that the new design allows both an increased conversion efficiency and bandwidth, and the generation of idler waves further in the mid-IR regions, by tuning the pump wavelength in the vicinity of the fiber ZDW.

One of the most remarkable and useful properties of a spatially converging lens system is its inherent ability to perform the Fourier transform; the same applies for the time-lens system. At the back focal plane of the time-lens, the spectral information can be instantaneously obtained in the time axis. By implementing temporal Fourier transform for spectroscopy applications, this time-lens-based architecture can provide orders of magnitude improvement over the state-of-art spatial-dispersion-based spectroscopy in terms of the frame rate. On the other hand, in addition to the single-lens structure, the multi-lens structures (e.g. telescope or wide-angle scope) will provide very versatile operating conditions. Leveraging the merit of instantaneous response, as well as the flexible lens structure, here we present a 100-MHz frame rate spectroscopy system – the parametric spectro-temporal analyzer (PASTA), which achieves 17 times zoom in/out ratio for different observation ranges.

Coherent satellites in multispectral regenerative frequency microcombs

Multi-spectral frequency combs provide frontier architectures for laser standoff spectroscopy, optical clockwork, and high-capacity optical communications. Frequency microcombs, aided by their high-quality resonances and inherent third-order nonlinear susceptibility, have demonstrated remarkable impact in frequency metrology and synthesis. However, microcombs are often with limited spectral bandwidth bounded by the intrinsic second-order chromatic dispersion and the consequently low intensities at the spectral edges. To enhance the applications of frequency combs, a spectrally-broad comb generation scheme is often desired. Here we report coherent satellite clusters in multi-spectral regenerative frequency microcombs with enhanced intensities at the octave points and engineered frequency span. Beyond the conventional bandwidth of parametric oscillation, the regenerative satellites are facilitated by higher-order dispersion control allowing for multiphase-matching in the microcavities. The frequency span of the multi-spectral regenerative satellites is deterministically controlled from 57 THz to 126 THz by pumping at C-and Lbands. We demonstrate that the regenerative satellite preserves the coherence with the central comb through the nonlinear parametric process. We further show the mirrored appearance of the satellite transition dynamics including each comb state that are simultaneously observed at the central comb. These multi-spectral regenerative satellites 2 extend the scope of parametric-based frequency combs and provide a unique platform with wide applications.
