Four-station laser tracer-based geometric error measurement of rotary table

Abstract: The geometric errors of numerical control (NC) rotary tables can be measured using a single instrument according to the conventional measurement method. This study presents an efficient method for this measurement using four-station laser tracers. A 3D coordinate measurement algorithm of the four-station laser tracer was established, the self-calibration of the laser tracer position and the spatial measuring point algorithm was realized, and the volumetric error of the measuring point on the rotary table was o… Show more

“…A reasonable choice for the positions of the four laser tracers can reduce the influence of the layout on the geometric error measurement results. Combined with the multi-point positioning measurement algorithm [9], the derivation of the position dilution of precision (PDOP) and the best layout of laser tracers are presented as follows.…”

“…The multi-station laser tracer has high accuracy, time-saving features, multiple geometric error items, and large measurement space range characteristics [7,8]. Zha et al successfully applied the four-station laser tracer in the geometric error item measurement of a computerized numerical control (CNC) rotary table and found the tool to be effective and efficient, ensuring measurement accuracy [9].…”

“…The proposed geometric error modeling method can also be applied to other types of parallel mechanisms. Zha et al [10] modeled the geometric errors of the NC rotary table using the screw theory, and a three-point measurement method was proposed to realize the separation of these geometric errors. Chen et al [11] used motion-axis differential operators to calculate the differential transformation matrix of each motion axis, and summed them to obtain the integrated error transformation matrix of the machine.…”

“…Multiple laser tracker stations and timedivision measurement can be used to identify the geometric errors of the rotary axis [13]. Zha et al used a four-station laser tracer to measure and separate the geometric error of the rotary axis of a machining center [14]. The indirect measurement of the geometric errors of the rotary axes of five-axis machine tools also includes a dual optical path method and a binocular vision test system [15,16].…”
