Four‐element quad‐band multiple‐input–multiple‐output antenna employing split‐ring resonator and inter‐digital capacitor

Abstract: In this study, a novel four‐element multiple‐input–multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna having quad‐band characteristics is proposed. A coplanar waveguide‐fed monopole is loaded with a split‐ring resonator and an inter‐digital capacitor to achieve miniaturisation and quad‐band operation. These quad‐band elements are arranged properly to implement a four‐element MIMO configuration which provides both spatial and pattern diversities. The achieved isolation performance is better than 20 dB. Measurement results confirm … Show more

“…Parameters C R and L R are parasitic capacitance and inductance which are usually ignored due to their very small value. When we give a specific phase shift (Δϕ), C L and L L can be calculated from Equation (2). Here, we suppose Δϕ = 4π/3, then the obtained C L and L L are 2 pF and 1.24 nH, respectively.…”

“…Due to light weight, low profile, and easy processing, microstrip antenna arrays have been widely applied to many microwave and millimeter wave terminals, such as Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) [1,2], radar systems and air vehicles. On the other hand, with the rapid growth of modern wireless communication systems, these wireless terminals become more and more compact.…”

“…The mutual coupling between the antenna elements has to be maintained minimum while designing MIMO antennas. To achieve this, various isolation enhancement techniques have been used like use of neutralization lines [1]- [2], tree like decoupling elements structures [3], parasitic elements [4], orthogonal feeding scheme [5] etc. However, use of such techniques often increase antenna-footprint and make the system more complex.…”
