Foundation plate on the elastic half-space, deterministic and probabilistic approach

Abstract: Abstract.Interaction between the foundation plate and subgrade can be described by different mathematical -physical model. Elastic foundation can be modelled by different types of models, e.g. one-parametric model, two-parametric model and a comprehensive model -Boussinesque (elastic half-space) had been used. The article deals with deterministic and probabilistic analysis of deflection of the foundation plate on the elastic half-space. Contact between the foundation plate and subsoil was modelled using contac… Show more

“…There are also other possible directions of development in theoretical and application areas, such as biomechanics (i.e., applications in traumatology and orthopaedics, see [12][13][14][15]17,19,[24][25][26][28][29][30], etc. ), wooden structures (see [1,2,6,8]), plastics and probabilistic reliability assessment of screw joints (see [3,6,29,[31][32][33], etc).…”

“…Depending on the technical need and severity of the problem, it is possible to choose the proposed shape of the linear/non-linear model, including its analytical solution. Thus, in some cases, the use of new tangential foundation models eliminates the need for sophisticated/time-consuming FEM modeling, and it also offers various simplifications and acceleration of the calculation, or a rapid probability stochastic approach to the solution, for example, using the Monte Carlo method, SBRA method and others (see, e.g., [6,12,29,[31][32][33]).…”

“…Nevertheless, up to now the sloshing response for earthquake excitation has not been properly predicted in many cases [20][21][22][23]. The reason for this is that past research has focused only on the configuration of tanks and the dynamic properties of fluid motion even though the sloshing behaviour of a tank is very sensitive to the characteristics of the input motions as well as the configuration of the tank-liquid system [24,25]. Therefore, to evaluate and predict the sloshing response of liquid storage tanks reasonably, extensive investigations should be given to the effect of the characteristics of input motions on sloshing behaviour.…”

“…The essential tools for these calculations are provided by fracture mechanics [13] and the reliability theory [14,15]. Some of approaches used for the fatigue crack prediction are based on stochastic methods [16,17]. Insight into the stochastic interactions among random factors (load, geometric and material characteristics) affecting the reliability of steel bridges is namely essential and crucial to understanding the progress of failure probability of steel structures over time.…”
