Introduction: We developed and tested a new system for inducing the healing of diabetic foot ulcers. The system relies on the regenerative properties of its two components: an insole with a sheet of natural latex and a device that contains a matrix of light emitting diodes with wavelength of 635 nm. Methods: The electronic and latex based devices were developed, and a four weeks test was performed in one control group (CG) of five ulcers and one experimental group (EG) of eight ulcers. The CG was treated with a standard approach, based on a silver-releasing foam dressing, and the EG was treated with the system under test. For each ulcer, an index for quantifying the percentage ulcer recovery, named CRU(%), has been calculated; a CRU(%) = 0% means no healing, and a CRU(%) = 100% means total healing. Results: There were statistically significant increases of CRU(%) of 51.8% (p = 0.022), for the CG, and of 78.4% (p < 0.001), for the EG. The increase in the EG was higher than the increase in the CG, and the difference was statistically significant (p < 0.001). The results showed that the proposed method had, for these particular sets of ulcers, faster healing rates, than for the standard method. Conclusion: The results hint that the proposed method seems promising as a future treatment method. However, the technique must undergo further testing before it can be considered for extensive clinical applications.

RESUMOPesquisa tipo convergente assistencial que objetivou analisar a vulnerabilidade de pessoas com 65 anos ou mais para ocorrência de feridas vasculogênicas a partir de parâmetros clínicos não invasivos, na busca por marcadores para subsidiar o cuidado e o processo de envelhecimento ativo e reunir evidências para estabelecer recomendações terapêuticas coerentes com as vulnerabilidades identificadas, com uniformização de terminologias para prescrição e avaliação de intervenções de enfermagem. Investigação realizada numa Unidade de Atenção Primária à Saúde do interior de Minas Gerais. Amostra por conglomerado. Foram atendidos os requisitos éticos e legais para pesquisa envolvendo seres humanos. Participaram 70 pessoas com mais de 65 anos de idade, residentes na área de abrangência de uma Unidade de Atenção Primária à Saúde, sendo identificado risco para úlceras vasculogênicas em 41,1% dos participantes. Foram propostas intervenções segundo Nursing Intervention Classification (NIC) e avaliação dos resultados segundo Nursing Outcome Classification (NOC). A magnitude da vulnerabilidade à ocorrência de doença arterial obstrutiva periférica alerta para uma lacuna na abordagem preventiva de lesões vasculogênicas, tendo em vista que não houve procura por serviços de saúde para este fim ou aproveitamento das oportunidades de consultas com outras finalidades para que intervenções preventivas fossem realizadas. ABSTRACTAssistant convergence type which aimed to analyze the vulnerability of people aged 65 years or older to occur vasculogenic wounds from noninvasive clinical parameters in view of the search for markers to subsidize the care and the process of active aging, and gather evidence to outline treatment recommendations consistent with the identified vulnerabilities, using the unifying language to name them. Research conducted in Health Unit Primary in Minas Gerais. Cluster sample. Legal and ethical requirements for research involving human subjects were met. Participated in 70 people over 65 years of age living in the catchment area of a unit of Primary Health Care, identified some risk to vasculogenic ulcers in 41.1% of participants. Were proposed interventions seconds Nursing Intervention Classification (NIC) and evaluation of results according Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC). The magnitude of vulnerability to the occurrence of peripheral arterial disease alert to a gap in preventative approach vasculogenic injuries, given that there was no demand for health services for this purpose nor use of opportunities of queries for other purposes for which interventions preventive were performed.

BACKGROUND: The skin requires adequate levels of nutrients to function properly. Objective: To analyze skin trophism in well-nourished and undernourished rats using two models of malnutrition. METHODS: In the marasmus model, 60 Wistar rats were kept on a controlled diet, 30 being randomly selected to receive half the established diet for 60 days. In the gelatin model, 60 rats were used, 30 of which received a diet consisting of poor quality protein (gelatin) for 30 days. The nutritional status of the animals was evaluated according to body mass index, clinical signs and serum albumin measurement. After the period of malnutrition, histology was performed on the animals' skin to analyze the thickness of the dermis and epidermis using the Leica Application Suite software. Collagen was analyzed on slides stained with Gömöri trichrome using the ImageJ software program. RESULTS: The body mass index of the malnourished animals in the marasmus and gelatin groups was significantly lower than that of the well-nourished animals in the two groups (p<0.0001 in both models). With respect to serum albumin, there was no difference between the groups in either of the two models. In relation to the histological analysis of skin thickness, the dermis of the malnourished animals was significantly thinner compared to that of the well-nourished animals (p<0.0001 in both models). The percentage of collagen was lower in the malnourished animals compared to the well-nourished animals (p<0.0005 and p<0.003 in the marasmus and gelatin model, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Skin thickness measurements were lower in the malnourished animals in both models, and this finding was histologically confirmed by the lower percentage of collagen, showing the negative effect of malnutrition on skin trophism. OBJETIVO: Analisar o trofismo cutâneo de ratos nutridos e desnutridos por meio de dois modelos de desnutrição. MÉTODOS: No Modelo Marasmo, utilizaram-se 60 ratos Wistar em controle dietético, dos quais 30 foram selecionados aleatoriamente para receber metade da dieta diária durante 60 dias. No Modelo Gelatina, empregaram-se 60 ratos, dos quais 30 receberam dieta associada a proteína de baixa qualidade (gelatina) durante 30 dias. Avaliou-se o estado nutricional dos animais por meio da massa corporal, dos sinais clínicos e da dosagem de albumina sérica. Após o período de desnutrição, fez-se a histologia da pele dos animais para análise da espessura da derme e epiderme com o software Leica Application Suite; nas lâminas coradas com tricrômio de Gomori, analisou-se a colagênese com o software ImageJ. RESULTADOS: A massa corporal dos animais desnutridos pelo marasmo e gelatina foi significativamente menor (p<0,0001 e p<0,0001) do que a dos grupos nutridos.
