Seventeen species of dinoflagellate resting cysts have been recorded for the first time in New Zealand. Isolated from sediments at 93 locations in the Marlborough Sounds, these were Gonyaulax spinifera, G. grindleyi, G. polyedra, G. digitalis, Gonyaulax sp., Protoperidinium subinerme, P. pentagonum, P. conicum, P. oblongum, P. leonis, P. cf punctulatum, P. cf. conicoides, Peridinium stellatum, Peridinium sp., Scrippsiella trochoidea, Polykrikos schwartzii, and Diplopsalis sp. here possible their identities were confirmed by hatching experiments yielding live motile cells. Greatest cyst concentrations and species diversity were found in Kenepuru Sound and Tennyson Inlet. These areas may be more likely to harbour toxic species causing paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) or diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP) if these were to appear in the future.

In this contribution we present the composition of the Late Cretaceous / Paleocene dinoflagellate cyst assemblages found in the Pelotas Basin, southern Brazil in order to provide a first paleobiogeographical comparison between this location, India and other former Gondwana continents: South America (Argentina and Uruguay), Africa (Nigeria and Western Ghana), Antarctica, Australia, and New Zealand. A total of 13 taxa, some endemic and other cosmopolitan were identified. The paleoenvironment of the Gondwana former members basins, as previously presented and attested by the dinoflagellate cysts are marginal marine nearshore, varying from neritic to shallow neritic and lagoonal or coastal swamps, which permitted the deposition of sediments in anoxic marine conditions. The present analysis of similarity between K/Pc dinoflagellate cyst associations allowed the establishment of paleobiogeographic distribution.

An assemblage of dinoflagellate cysts is re�orted from the Lo�er Member (Pilmatu�� Member) of the An assemblage of dinoflagellate cysts is re�orted from the Lo�er Member (Pilmatu�� Member) of the Agrio Formation (late Valanginian-Hauterivian) of the southern Neuqu��n Basin, Argentina. Thirty s�ecies are recognized and the ne� s�ecies Oligosphaeridium quattrocchioae and Muderongia sarjeantii described. The studied assemblage is com�ared �ith other Early Cretaceous assemblages from central �estern Argentina, Patagonia, the South Atlantic Malvinas Plateau, the Antarctic Peninsula and Australia. The marine dinoflagellate cyst assemblage of the Agrio Formation at the Estancia Santa Elena locality has cosmo�olitan character, �ith a �redominance of Euro�ean and Tethyan s�ecies.
