Manufacturers typically define photovoltaic (PV) modules under conventional test settings of 1000 W/m2 at 25 °C, which may not be possible anywhere in the globe, because high ambient temperature is one of the most critical factors affecting photovoltaic solar cell efficiency. In this study, we will investigate the ambient temperature as well as the open circuit voltage, output power, short circuit current, and efficiency in hot regions such as Mecca (Makkah). It also discusses the correlations between PV efficiency, solar radiation, and ambient temperature. On the other hand, the addition of a layer of copper sulphate at a concentration of 1% is investigated. The use of a copper sulphate layer enhanced the PV characteristic in cases where the PV cell temperature was reduced by around (0.3–34.6 °C), while also increasing the open circuit voltage, output power, efficiency, and fill factor.

Nanofibrous aerogels with ultra‐high porosity and surface area exhibit great potential for widespread applicability and therefore attract extensive attentions. Herein, a self‐reinforcing strategy to design nanofibrous aerogels is proposed using the thermoplastic polymer nanofibers as building blocks and a simple thermal welding as the crosslinking method. The macroscopic freestanding thermoplastic poly(vinyl alcohol‐co‐ethylene) nanofibers aerogel is mass manufactured via industrial sea‐island spinning and ice template method. After further welding the nanofibers using a facile and controlled heat treatment, the mechanically robust aerogels are favorably fabricated with higher restorability under compression, folding, and torsion and better stability in solvent relative to the unwelded aerogels. It is interesting that the wettability of the nanofibrous aerogels changes from hydrophilic to hydrophobic after thermal welding and excellent stability in water. The resulting nanofibrous aerogels exhibit effective absorption performance for oils and organic solvents, excellent thermal insulation, and efficient acoustic absorption. The results reveal that the development of self‐reinforced polymer nanofiber aerogels may provide the options to the design of multifunctional aerogels due to the industrial fabrication of thermoplastic polymer nanofibers and chemical‐free post‐treatment.

Background There is no gainsaying about the importance of energy to the growth, development and socioeconomic well-being of any society. Photovoltaics (PV) have been identified not only as a means of meeting the energy needs of the Nigerian population but also as a tool in its national development. In this study, we reviewed the policy efforts of Nigeria in improving the renewable energy spread and the PV operations and utilization across the country. Results The technical audit of PV operations in Nigeria is evaluated using questionnaires administered in the 27 Local Government Areas in Imo State, as a case study. The component items in the latent variable scales of the audit have been tested for internal consistency using the Cronbach’s alpha. The good variable scale “Appropriateness for energy need” indicated a dissenting perception, whereas the acceptable variable scales “Adequacy in energy efficiency” and “Sustainability of PV project” indicated significant confidence in their perceptions. The perception in the energy need, which is associated with the limitations in PV utilization, is perceived as wrongdoings. Conclusions The whistleblowing policy is advocated as a germane measure to reduce or stop these wrongdoings and improve PV utilization and spread in Nigeria.
