Formulation of springback and machine setting parameters for multi-pass three-roller cone frustum bending with change of flexural modulus

Abstract: Roller bending process can be used to plastically deform a sheet or plate to hollow shapes of constant (i.e. cylindrical, elliptical) or varying (i.e. cone frustum) cross sections. Cylindrical and conical shells are the basic components of vessels and structures used for the various engineering applications. Reported work discuss the formulation of springback and machine setting parameters for continuous multi-pass bending of cone frustum on threeroller bending machines with non-compatible (cylindrical) roller… Show more

“…In the light of the reason for twist, the deflection resulting in the twist can be reduced by reducing the variable parameters P and s D that reflected in Equation (1). On the premise of no slipping in the actual rolling bending process, the resultant force P is often calculated according to the material properties and set as small as possible to prevent the material from being damaged due to excessive resultant force [19]. According to Equation (1), the twist defects can be inhibited by reducing the distance between the upper roll and the side roll.…”

“…Modern manufacturing lines (of Haeusler AG) include roller forming mill, roller device for bending of edges, welding-assembling mill for preparing of strip for welding, welding section, expander for making the final profile of the tube. All manufacturing schemes include elastic-plastic bending of the billet [6][7][8][9][10][11]. 3-roller bending process using Haeusler AG equipment with modern automation tools and counter-bending allows manufacturing tubes of 12.5 m length.…”
