Formulation of Bilayer Benzydamine HCl Patch Targeted For Gingivitis

Abstract: In the present study bilayer patch of benzydamine HCl was developed using solvent casting method. Different substrates were attempted like Petri dish, glass-and-ring, and teflon-and-ring for selection of the proper option to formulate patch that should give easily peelable film with adequate mechanical properties. HPMC E15 LV was used in different concentrations for obtaining proper viscosity of solution for pouring on to surface and ring, that it should not leak from ring. The second layer was optimized by us… Show more

“…ODFs are conventionally manufactured via film casting of the dispersion using different technologies. The most widely used technique is a solvent casting method that takes place in an aqueous or hydro-alcoholic mixture of excipients with API being casted onto a surface, dried, and cut into the desired size (12,20). The solvent casting method is relatively easily performed with no need for expensive equipment (21).…”

“…To date, a wide range of polymeric drug delivery systems for oral applications have been reported in the literature, including but not limited to tablets, 12 gels, 13,14 patches, 15,16 and films. 17,18 In this context, oral films and patches may be preferred over other adhesive systems as they are flexible and soft, yet strong enough and with relevant mucoadhesive characteristic to withstand the stresses within the oral cavity.…”
