Formulation and development of herbal microsponge sunscreen gel

Abstract: Purpose The endeavor of this study is to prepare and developed a method for microsponge gel as a polyherbal formulation along with their evaluation methods for sunscreen properties. Method Polyherbal extracts as an active component for preparing microsponge formulation used in ratio of a drug, i.e. Poly herbal extracts, ethyl cellulose used as polymer, Polyvinyl alcohol as an emulsifier present in the formulation was successfully obtained by using method quasi‐emulsion solvent diffusion. The formulations prepa… Show more

“…Some of the already published microsponge controlled release formulations are benzyl peroxide, mupirocin, retinoid, 5‐fluorouracil, etc., but because of several drawbacks caused by using chemical substances like photoinstability and adverse effects of chemical filters, the formulation that uses herbal extracts is choice of interest nowadays 8 . In the current scenario, manufacturers use different herbal components in the preparation of skin protection formulations from UV rays 9 . Polyherbal extracts comprising of three or more plant extracts were prepared and utilized for the gel formulation which is supposed to act by whole radiation's absorption in the range 280–315 nm and mimics the energy preservation law.…”

“…Genuine herbal elements in sun-screen are the least irritating to the skin, especially for sensitive skin [6], include natural components, can regenerate the skin, and give enough protection against pollution and climate changes in the atmosphere. The most often used herbs in natural sunscreen include aloe vera, vitamin E, turmeric, and cucumber [7][8][9]. Aloe vera is a well-known and ancient Liliaceae medicinal plant.…”
