Objetivo: Realizar uma revisão integrativa da literatura para identificar os índices oclusais propostos para avaliação das maloclusões. Métodos: Realizou-se uma revisão integrativa da literatura nas bases de dados BVS e PubMed). Utilizou-se os descritores index, orthodontics, malocclusion e occlusion combinados com o operador booleano AND. Resultados: Foram recuperados 1.309 estudos nas buscas realizadas nas bases de dados. Após análise dos títulos, resumos e língua dos estudos, 1.298 foram excluídos, considerando-se os critérios de inclusão. Posteriormente, 11 estudos foram elegíveis e lidos integralmente. Destes, somaram-se mais 4 estudos, devido à análise das referências dos estudos selecionados. Por fim, 15 estudos foram incluídos nesta revisão integrativa. Considerações finais: Foram identificados 15 índices oclusais para avaliação das maloclusões com diferentes objetivos e metodologias. Por fim, exalta-se que não há um único índice com aceitação e aplicação universal, mas sim aquele que melhor se aplica ao que o ortodontista deseja analisar.

A new orthodontic index was proposed by the College of Diplomates to assess the degree of difficulty of cases submitted for the IBO Phase III clinical examinations. This article is the continuation of Parts I and II of the article, which gave a brief insight into the need and the methodology undertaken to formulate this index. A weightage score grading the degree of difficulty was formulated based on the Dental, Cephalometric, and Miscellaneous components. An Aesthetic component was also developed. Further statistical evaluation was done to formulate a cut-off score required for cases submitted for the Phase III examination. This index would help to categorize the malocclusion in a structured manner.

A new orthodontic index was proposed by the College of Diplomates to assess the degree of difficulty of cases submitted for the Indian Board of Orthodontics Phase III clinical examinations. This article is the continuation of the part 1 article which gave a brief insight into the need and the methodology undertaken to formulate this index. A weightage score grading the degree of severity of a case was obtained for dental, cephalometric, and miscellaneous components based on the results of a survey taken from the Diplomates of the Indian Board of Orthodontics. An aesthetic component was also developed using photographs and the relative aesthetic score for every photograph was graded. This index would help to categorize the malocclusion based on the severity, in a single, linear, and transparent manner.
