O empreendedorismo se apresenta em formato multifacetado nas conjecturas econômicas dos países desenvolvidos e em desenvolvimento na medida em que há criação de novos negócios. Serve, ainda, como válvula para o desenvolvimento e refinação de políticas públicas governamentais que visam aumentar a atividade empreendedora. Assim, o objetivo deste artigo é analisar o impacto do empreendedorismo e a qualidade de vida da população na economia de países desenvolvidos e em desenvolvimento. Para atingir esse objetivo realizou-se uma pesquisa descritiva, documental e quantitativa analisando os países que compõem os índices do Global Entrepreneurship Index (GEI) e Human Development Index (IDH) disponibilizados pelos relatórios Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) e The United Nations Development Program (PNUD). O estudo relacionou através de testes estatísticos de regressão linear múltipla com dados em painel as variáveis preditoras IDH e GEI na variável de resposta PIB Per Capta nos anos de 2017 a 2019. Na revisão teórica serão abordados conceitos de empreendedorismo e informações sobre as variáveis da análise voltadas para uma visão de desenvolvimento dos países analisados. O resultado deste estudo indicou que todas as variáveis independentes deste modelo têm efeitos significativos no indicador PIB Per Capta nos anos avaliados. O estudo pode contribuir com as políticas de incentivo ao empreendedorismo no desenvolvimento econômico dos países e ser norteador para mais pesquisas em cenários desfavoráveis à economia como em casos de pandemia.

Background Innovation ecosystems are an important driver of regional economic growth and development. STEM assets connected to universities may play an important role in such ecosystems. Objective To systematically review the literature relating to the effect of university STEM assets on regional economies and innovation ecosystems, providing a better understanding of how the impact is generated and constrained, as well as identifying any gaps in knowledge. Methods Keyword and text word searches using the Web of Science Core Collection (Clarivate), Econlit (EBSCO) and ERIC (EBSCO) were performed in July 2021 and February 2023. Papers were double screened on abstract and title, and were included if there was consensus that they fulfilled the inclusion criteria of: (i) relating to an OECD country; (ii) having been published between 1 January 2010 and 28 February 2023; and (iii) concerning the impact of STEM assets. Data extraction was undertaken for each article by a single reviewer and checked by a second reviewer. Due to the heterogeneity of the study designs and outcome measures used, it was not possible to perform a quantitative synthesis of results. A narrative synthesis was subsequently undertaken. Results Of the 162 articles identified for detailed review, 34 were accepted as being sufficiently relevant to the study to be included for final analysis. Three important features identified were that the literature: i) is predominately concerned with supporting new businesses; ii) describes a high level of involvement with a university in providing that support; and iii studies economic impacts at local, regional and national levels. Discussion The evidence points to a gap in the literature relating to looking at the broader impact of STEM assets and any corresponding transformational, system-level effects that go beyond narrowly defined, short to medium-term outcomes. The main limitation of this review is that information on STEM assets in the non-academic literature is not captured.

The Road to Ecological University: A Metaphor Analysis from the Perspectives of Academicians and External Stakeholders

This study sought to explain the idea of the university from the perspectives of academicians and external stakeholders through metaphors. The study was designed as a qualitative phenomenological study. Semi-structured interviews were held with 33 key people, 11 of whom were from the university and 22 of whom were external stakeholders, notably experts on the industry, natural environment, and culture of Gaziantep province in Turkey. The findings of this study revealed that participants used metaphors such as mother, factory, scientist, and conductor, emphasizing the university's role as a center of research, teaching, and the leader in the region. The most significant finding of the study, however, is that the participants in the study produced metaphors such as octopus, forest, and brain that point out the interconnectedness of the university with its surrounding ecologies, just as indicated in the ecological university model, which tries to develop the many surrounding ecosystems with which the university is interconnected, and which works systematically with the other institutions in its eco-system.
