Formation of Uniform CuO Nanorods by Spontaneous Aggregation:  Selective Synthesis of CuO, Cu2O, and Cu Nanoparticles by a Solid−Liquid Phase Arc Discharge Process

Abstract: Uniform and monodisperse CuO nanorods have been synthesized by directional aggregation and crystallization of tiny CuO nanoparticles generated from a solid-liquid arc discharge process under ambient conditions in the absence of any surfactants. Uniform CuO nanorods with sharp ends are formed from tiny nanoparticles via a process that involves the rapid oxidation of Cu nanoclusters, the spontaneous aggregation of CuO nanoparticles, and the Ostawald ripening process. The spontaneous aggregation and oriented atta… Show more

“…2B) [17,18]. Moreover, the spectra of these samples display several strong satellite peaks between Cu 2p 3/2 peak and its first satellite on the higher enery side of about 8 eV, which is the characteristic of the material such as CuO having a d 9 configuration in ground state [19,20] (Fig. S2C-S2D), further confirming that the well-defined CuO/Cu 2 O composite hollow microspheres can only be obtained when the MR is 10.…”

“…Additionally, Raman spectra of the pyrolyzed products of the organic species in the copper oxidechitosan samples reveal the formation of several remnant carbon clusters at metal surface. Indeed, Raman spectroscopy is an extremely sensitive tool for the detection of carbon clusters [47]. We do not observe any carbon related D and G bands in the spectra, indicating successful elimination of carbon contamination and carbon-containing residue during the typical operating temperature range (see Experimental section) of a copper catalyst [48].…”

“…Various kinds of metal oxide NPs fabricated from the PLIs have been reported [61,[219][220][221][222][223][224][225][226][227][228][229][230][231][232][233][234]. In the following, we will give two representative results for the PLIs induced metal oxides NPs.…”
