Formation of nanometer-sized Au particles on USY zeolites under hydrogen atmosphere

Abstract: Gold was deposited on ultrastable Y (USY) zeolite using a newly developed method: just mixing an aqueous solution of HAuCl 4 and zeolite at 353 K in which the NH 4 + cation reacted with the Cl − in HAuCl 4 . Treatment of the Au-loaded USY zeolite in the atmosphere of hydrogen resulted in the formation of Au 0 nanoclusters with 1.8 nm diameter at 773 K. The size of Au particle was dependent on the type of zeolite support, composition of gas atmosphere, and temperature of calcination, which was correlated with c… Show more

“…For mesoporous silica, the challenges in preparation are similar to those described for the regular silica supports which were discussed earlier. Mesoporous silica materials can also be deliberately decorated with functional groups, such as amine, thiol, , and pyrrolidone, , to increase the interaction of the support with Au. Functionalizing the preformed Au particles/clusters before deposition on the mesoporous silica support is another approach which has been tried.…”

“…Figure 9a shows that the conversion of benzyl alcohol and the yield of benzaldehyde increased with an increase in the calcination temperature. The highest activity (conversion and yield) was obtained when the catalyst was treated at 673-973 K. Similarly, the dependence of the catalytic activity on the thermal treatment temperature was observed in the homocoupling of phenylboronic acid [19]. The change in the particle size of Au was correlated with the catalytic activity, which increased as the size of the Au particles decreased.…”

“…Recently, Okumura et al . reported a preparation method for highly dispersed small metal supported NH 4 ‐USY zeolite catalysts ,. For this work, we adopted the method to prepare a 1 wt% Pt/NH 4 ‐USY catalyst with highly dispersed small Pt particles.…”
