“…Although the thermodynamic minimum temperature for the formation of AlN, according to reaction (1), is~1953K [15], several studies [15,36] have reported the low-temperature synthesis of AlN, and the mechanism is still not clearly understood. In this paper, as mentioned above, the onset temperature for nitridation of Precursor I is 1300°C.…”

“…11 The substrate mixtures of corundum and carbon black were reacted in pure nitrogen atmosphere at 1700 • C. Modifications of this method were usually connected with changes of precursors (inorganic aluminium salts, starch) and respective reaction conditions. [12][13][14][15][16] Combustion of metallic aluminium powder in air was proposed by Bouriannes et al 17 The reaction of inductively heated powder was performed at 1500 • C and gave multiphase product composed of ␥-alon, aluminium nitride and corundum. More simple and relatively novel method for ␥-alon preparation was described by Gromov et al 18 In this case, the mixtures with different proportion of metallic aluminium and fine ␥-alumina powders were ignited in air.…”

“…Although AlON (5AlN· 9A1 2 0 3 ), A1 4 0 4 C and A120C should also be included in the 98 Thermochemistry and kinetics (Kosolapova et al, 1984) have indicated the presence of Al 4 0 4C and Al20C in N2 containing systems at temperatures as low as T = 1473 K (1200°C), other studies (Hirai et al, 1989;Ish-Shalom, 1982) have not found evidence of these phases at temperatures as high as T = 2053 K (1780°C). On the other hand, numerous investigations (Cho and Charles, 1991b;Hirai et al, 1989Hirai et al, , 1992Hirai and Katayama, 1991;Ish-Shalom, 1982;…”
