The ac and dc driving fields dependence of the dielectric permittivity for the strontium barium niobate relaxor ferroelectric thin films has been investigated. The nonlinear dielectric properties were obtained by using the measurements of the dielectric permittivity of the material as a function of the ac and dc "bias" electric field amplitude in wide frequency ͑100 Hz-10 MHz͒ and temperature ͑50-450 K͒ intervals. The results hint the existence of a true mesoscopic dielectric relaxor response in the ferroelectric thin film, which is very similar to those observed in bulk relaxor ferroelectrics. An anomalous behavior of the NL dielectric response was observed when submitted to moderate dc electric fields levels, indicating a crossover from paraelectric to a glasslike behavior on cooling the sample toward the freezing transition. The obtained results were analyzed within the framework of the models proposed in the current literature.

“…Según lo reportado en la literatura [17], para menor contenido de estroncio se requiere de menor temperatura de calcinación, por lo tanto, para el estudio del efecto de la temperatura en la evolución de las fases presentes en las muestras se procedió a sintetizar muestras del compuesto SBN33 a menor temperatura, manteniendo el tiempo de calcinación que mejor resultado dio para SBN50, es decir, 6 h. Los difractogramas que se observan en la figura 5 corresponden a muestras sintetizadas a pH 7.8 y tratadas a 1100° C por 6h. Como se observa en el difractograma, si bien esta muestra presenta sólo dos picos correspondientes a fases secundarias, con una muy baja intensidad, no fue posible mediante este método obtener la fase SBN deseada libre de fases secundarias.…”

(SBN) fue presentado en 1960 por Francombe [1] como un material ferroeléctrico en el rango de 0.25 < x < 0.75, para el cual el material presenta estructura tetragonal tungsteno-bronce (TBT) a temperatura ambiente. La presencia simultánea de cationes A monovalentes y divalentes conducen a la síntesis de sistemas con la estructura TBT de acuerdo con la fórmula A 6 B 10 O 30 [2]. La celda elemental del SBN es de este tipo, presentando una estructura de la forma [(A1) 2 (A2) 4 C 4 ][(B1) 2 (B2) 8 ]O 30 conformada por 10 octaedros de oxígeno ordenados de tal manera que forman tres tipos de sitios intersticiales A1, A2 y C (ocupados por los cationes Sr y Ba) [3]. Los sitios B1 y B2 (ocupados por el Nb) se encuentran en el interior de los octaedros.Dentro del rango de estructura tetragonal tungstenobronce el SBN es un material ferroeléctrico con importantes aplicaciones como detector piroeléctrico, dispositivo electroóptico y fotorefractivo [4][5][6][7]. En la actualidad existe un creciente interés en el desarrollo de cerámicas pertenecientes a este sistema con mejor desempeño y para ello se ha planteado como estrategia controlar la forma y el tamaño de partícula durante el proceso de síntesis.En la literatura se han reportado diferentes métodos para la obtención de SBN. Panda y colaboradores [8] reportan la obtención de SBN (x = 0.4, 0.5, 0.6) por una nueva ruta química basada en el uso de una solución de complejo de tartrato de niobio, encontrando la fase pura con un tratamiento térmico de 750 °C por 2 horas y partículas con tamaños del orden de los 20 nm. Tamaños de partícula menor con tratamientos térmicos similares fueron reportados por Lu y colaboradores [9] utilizando el método sol-gel, método reportado también En este trabajo se exponen los resultados del proceso de obtención de polvos cerámicos nanométricos del sistema Sr 1-x Ba x Nb 2 O 6 (SBN), para dos valores de x (0.33 y 0.50) que se encuentran dentro del rango para el cual el sistema tiene estructura tetragonal bronce de tungsteno y propiedad ferroeléctrica. Fueron comparados dos métodos de obtención (Pechini y coprecipitación controlada) variando parámetros de síntesis tales como pH de solución, precursor de niobio y tratamiento térmico. Los polvos obtenidos fueron caracterizados estructuralmente por medio de difracción de rayos X y morfológicamente por medio de microscopía electrónica de barrido. A partir del análisis de los resultados se concluyó sobre el efecto de los métodos de síntesis y de los parámetros mencionados, en la obtención de la fase pura y en tamaño de las partículas. El método Pechini (con pH igual a 9.7) permitió obtener la fase pura de SBN para x=0.33 y tamaño de partícula del orden de los 50 nm, mientras que con el método coprecipitación controlada no fue posible obtener fase pura. Synthesis of Sr0.5Ba0.5Nb2O6 by Coprecipitation Method?Dielectric and Microstructural Characteristics

Sr 0.5 Ba 0.5 Nb 2 O 6 (SBN50) has been synthesized by coprecipitation method using Sr(NO 3 ) 2 , Ba(NO 3 ) 2 and Nb-oxalate as precursors and ammonium hydroxide as precipitant. Calcination at 1150 • C resulted in pure SBN50 phase (XRD) and nano powder with size varying between 100-250 nm (TEM). The average grain size (SEM) in the sintered pellets ranged from 2.5 to 5 µm as the sintering temperature varied from 1250 to 1350 • C. The maximum sintered density was observed to be 93% of ρ th . The plot of dielectric constant vs. temperature clearly showed a shift of dielectric maxima (ε max ) with frequency, indicating the relaxor nature of SBN50. The room temperature dielectric constant (ε RT > 2300) observed for all these samples is higher compared to the earlier reported values (ε RT ∼ 1500). The T c (for 1 KHz) varied from 47-60 • C depending on the sintering conditions. The hystersis loops were recorded at various temperatures. The maximum saturation polarization for the unpoled pellets was found to be 2.3 µC/cm 2 when sintered at 1350 • C. The improvement in dielectric and ferroelectric behavior is attributed to the enhanced homogeneity attained by the coprecipitation synthesis route used in the present study. Correlations between microstructure (sintering conditions) and dielectric behavior is explored.
